Reindeer Cookies!

Last weekend the kids and I started our annual Christmas baking. Generally we try to make tasty little treats for their teachers and our neighbors. We have had this tradition for a long time. I believe that the best gifts come from your heart and from your kitchen. About six years ago my daddy gave me a Christmas cookie cookbook. I have cherished it and used it every year since. In the book there is cute reindeer cookie. My kids love them and we make sure that no matter what cookies we make that we always make this one. The cookbook calls for a chocolate dough but you could use gingerbread, tinted or sugar cookie dough. Store bought or homemade, it really is up to you. I followed the recipe in the book and did a chocolate dough. I also used pretzels for antlers and mini M&M's for the eyes and nose. You could use any embellishments you like. Those were the ones we used.

I like to use muffin pans to house our cookie decorating supplies. It keeps everything neat and orderly during cookie making time. Plus you can pass it around the table or use multiple pans.

                                           

 

Directions for reindeer cookies:

If you are using homemade dough, roll into a log and refrigerate for a least an hour. Cut your chilled cookie dough into 1/4 inch slices. Place on cookie sheet (lined with parchment paper) and shape dough with your fingers into a rounded triangle. So it looks like your reindeer has a chin. Press the pretzels into the top of the dough. Press the M&M's into the dough to make the eyes and the nose. Then bake according to your directions. Let them cool. A Week Of Christmas Lunches! Day Three!

Today we will visit the lunches of Christmas past! lol Last year was my first year on the bento scene. At Christmas I had only been packing bento lunches for around four months. I didn't have as much cool bento stuff as I do now but those lunches were pretty good for a gal new to the bento scene. I am still using the same cookie presses my friend sent me and the lunches are still cool. I have learned a lot. My work is much neater and I have learned how to take better photos. It is a learning process and I am glad I started making bentos. Now let's visit: Lunches of Christmas Past!

This was a simple lunch. A Santa sandwich, holiday pretzels, homemade chocolate chip cookies, apples, grapes and cucumbers.

This is an adorable gingerbread girl.

She has a ham sandwich with extra ham roll-ups, holiday pretzels, cookies, cumbers, peppers, apples and grapes.

This is one of my favorite lunches. A tribute to Christmas Vacation!

In this lunch. Peanut butter sandwiches, holiday pretzels, Wally Moose cookies, apples, sweet peppers and sugar snap peas.

A Week Of Christmas Lunches! Day Two!

Today was a super busy day. I reorganized my pantry. Then I reorganized and rehomed all of my bento supplies. I started at 8:30 AM and finished at about 2:00 PM. By that time I had to get lunches made for the next day. I was pressed for time and am in serious need of a trip to the grocery store! So I threw these lunches together really quick and called it a day.

This is lunch for the boy. He has pretzels, peanut butter, apples, a clementine and beef sticks.

 

The girls all took the same lunch. They have pretzels and peanut butter, beef sticks, apples, carrots, cucumbers and sugar snap peas.                                                                                                           

 

So far his week has been really busy and it is only Tuesday. At least I got my cookies made and packed up to go to our teachers! Have a great day.

A Week Of Christmas Lunches! Day One!

This is our last week of school before our Holiday Break! The kids of course are excited. I just want to sleep past six so I guess I am pretty excited too. There is a lot to do to prepare for the grand arrival of Saint Nick! Cookies to bake. Presents to wrap, in secret hopefully. Last minute shopping. So much! The kids will need a lunch Monday thru Thursday this week so I will be doing them up Christmas style. Friday we will have another Fandom Friday link-up. To start the week off I made really quick lunches. It took fifteen minutes and boy was I glad. I had been in the kitchen baking all day and was plum tuckered out!

I added a little holiday pizazz to the pictures. This is a lunch for the boy!

He has a plain bagel, pepperonis, apples, grapes and Teddy Grahams with teeny tiny Santa chocolates.

The three girls took basically the same lunch. I just packed what each girl liked. This is lunch for my niece. She has a ham & turkey bagel, carrots, a cheese wedge, grapes, apples and Teddy Grahams with teeny tiny Santa chocolates.

I made four lunches in fifteen minutes!

Weeping Angel For Fandom Friday!

My daughter and I share a love of all things geek. We are both geeks and we know it. We also share a love of Doctor Who. He makes us happy. We had a discussion earlier today about things that we are interested in. Much of those things are the same. She said that we are part of the fandom. What does that mean?

 Fandom (consisting of fan [fanatic] plus the suffix -dom, as in kingdom) is a term used to refer to a subculture composed of fans characterized by a feeling of empathy and camaraderie with others who share a common interest.

Pretty sweet. Right? I, being the most awesome mom in the universe decided to make my sweetie a Doctor Who themed lunch. Now I don't have any special Doctor Who cookie presses yet. I stress the word YET! So I used a angel cookie cutter from my stash and made a Weeping Angel lunch.

The Weeping Angels are by far my most favorite villains in the Doctor Who series. They are so creepy and if you BLINK they will transport you through space and time. So take a look at this lunch. And whatever you do DON'T Blink!

Now if you are a Doctor Who fan you will already know which elements of the lunch have to do with the show.Of course the Weeping Angel sandwich, Don't blink, because you never want to take your eyes off of a Weeping Angel. The Tardis blue silicone cup. The big eye, because The Doctor saw the big eye when he first met Miss Amy Pond. Lastly the cute Converse sneaker napkin. Because The Doctor wears Converse!

Easy Lunches!

Today started off with kids running late to school. An outing to pays bills. A trip to my least favorite store to grab Christmas candy and all the fixings to make Christmas cookies. A call from our local middle school to inform us that there was a gas leak and the students had been evacuated to the high school. Then another call that the kids were headed back to the middle school because everything was clear. That was all before 11 o'clock! And we have a band concert tonight!

Lunches for today were pretty simple. Three kids took salads and the boy took a DIY Lunchable.

The youngest girl took a cute side salad in a big frog silicone cup. She also has a clementine, grapes, sweet peppers, carrots, sugar snap peas, sweet peppers, grilled chicken and pretzels.

The other two girls took salads as well. This one is for the older girl. She has salad, grilled chicken, a clementine, grapes, honey mustard pretzel pieces and Laughing Cow cheese.

The boy took crackers, pretzels, pepperonis, grilled chicken, a clementine and grapes.

Tulip Bento!

It is just the beginning of Winter here and I am already looking forward to Spring! It is downright cold here. I can't wait to feel the warm sun on my face and hear the birds chirp. I decided since I am feeling the need for warmth that I would make a bento that reminded me of a beautiful Spring day.

My first bento was inspired by the lovely tulips that bloom in early Spring. They are one of my favorite flowers and they smell heavenly.

 This is lunch for my niece. She has two ham sandwiches shaped like tulips, Laughing Cow cheese, honey mustard pretzel crisp, carrots, cucumbers, an orange, grapes and Teddy Grahams.

This second lunch is for my youngest girl. She is as cute and snuggly as a warm teddy bear.

 She has a teddy bear shaped ham sandwich, pieces of string cheese, sugar snap peas, carrots, sweet peppers, an orange, grapes and Teddy Grahams.

This is lunch for the boy. He loves DIY Lunchables!

He has pepperonis, crackers, pretzels, Teddy Grahams, grapes and an orange .

Christmas Lunches!

It's time for Christmas lunches! This is my most favorite time of the year. I absolutely love Christmas! I love everything about it. The decorations, the cookies, the giving, the parties and the Christmas bento! I am sure I left something out. Just remember I love EVERYTHING about it!

In this lunch I used an antique gingerbread man cookie press. My friend sent it to me last year. This is one of my favorite cookie presses. He's cute right?                                                                                  

 This is lunch for my youngest. She has a ham gingerbread man sandwich, banana chips, cashews, a orange, grapes, sweet peppers, cucumbers and carrots.

This is lunch for my middle schooler. She has a Santa ham sandwich, cashews, an orange, grapes,  carrots and cucumbers.

 This is a lunch for my niece. She has a Santa face ham sandwich, banana chips, cashews, an orange, grapes, cucumbers and carrots.

This last lunch is for our oldest girl. She has been ill for a couple of months so she is being homeschooled. We noticed that she has been losing weight lately. She doesn't have a hearty appetite like she used to. So this mama decided that her baby (17 year old) needed protein! I made her this protein box. Since she doesn't have a big appetite I thought she could nibble on it throughout the day. I wanted to make sure she had healthy nibbles ready at her disposal. It looks great!

 In the protein box she has two boiled eggs, pieces of all beef sausage, cashews, banana chips, sweet peppers, a clementine and grapes.

Minnie Mouse Lunches!

Last week while doing a little grocery shopping I came across a Mickey & Minnie sandwich cutter. I did a happy dance. I have been looking for these two cutters for months. I also came across Mickey, Minnie and Winnie the Pooh food picks while Christmas shopping on Amazon. I have wanted those for over a year and they are pretty hard to find in the states. So today I made three Minnie Mouse sandwiches in three different lunchboxes. I wanted to show you how a lunch with the same ingredients looks in different boxes.

This lunch is in a Planetbox Rover. She has a Minnie Mouse turkey sandwich, apples, cucumbers, sweet peppers, carrots, grapes and trail mix. She also has a Babybell cheese.                                           

This lunch is in a LunchBots trio. This box is a bigger version of the original. There is a Minnie Mouse turkey sandwich, apples, grapes, carrots, cucumbers and trail mix.
